Meet the Board of Education
The Ocean Township Board of Education consists of nine members. Members are elected for three-year terms and service without pay.
In order to increase communications between students and the Board of Education, two student representatives are selected to the board as non-voting members. The student representatives are Juniors at Ocean Township High School who are entitled to attend all non-executive meetings and to participate in discussions involving matters pertaining to the board. The representatives for the 2025-2026 school year are Jeffrey Charles and Christian Nunez Hernandez.
The Superintendent of Schools, Kelly Weldon, serves as a non-voting member of the Board of Education and is chief administrator officer of the board.

Meet the Board of Education
John McCarthy, Board President
John McCarthy
John McCarthy is a product of the Township of Ocean school system and currently resides in Wayside with his wife, two children and his mother—three generations of Spartans. John is a graduate of Quinnipiac University with a BS in Sociology and The George Washington University with an MBA focused on innovation and management of technology. He is a former Marine Infantry Officer and currently works in acquisitions for one of the largest recyclers in the world.

Gerard Dalton, Board Vice President
Gerard Dalton
Gerard Dalton is a graduate of St. Peter's University with a BS in Marketing Management and a MA Ed. in Education, Administration and Supervision. He has been a public school educator in New Jersey since 1992 having served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and superintendent. Gerard resides in Oakhurst.

Scott Brady, Board Member
Scott Brady
Scott Brady joined the Wanamassa community in 2016, where he currently resides with his wife and their son, who is a student in the Ocean Township Schools. Scott began his career in education in 2009 at an independent charter school in Lower Manhattan and has been an elementary school teacher in Monmouth County since 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marist University in Political Science and Spanish. Scott went on to earn a Masters of Education from St. John's University n Elementary General and Special Education. He also received his curriculum supervisor and principal certification from NJEXCEL. Scott has served many educational leadership positions in his professional career and he is eager to bring his experiences to the Ocean Township Schools to foster positive change for the students, staff, and community of Ocean Township.

Caitlin Dam, Board Member
Caitlin Dam
Caitlin Dam, a mother of three, has been a proud resident of Wanamassa since moving to the community with her husband in 2017. She graduated from Fordham University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and an MBA with a concentration in Management. A dedicated student-athlete, Caitlin's accomplishments in swimming earned her induction into the Fordham Athletic Hall of Fame. As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Caitlin works as a consultant with a Monmouth County-based firm, specializing in software implementation and financial support.

Irene Gilman, Board Member
Irene Gilman
Irene Gilman is a graduate of Monmouth University with a BA in English and Secondary Education. She also has an MA in the Humanities from California State University, Dominguez Hills, along with 30 additional credits in Secondary English course work. Irene has a total of 44 years of Language Arts/English teaching experience with 38 years at Ocean Township High School, five years in the Brielle district and one year of Title I Basic Skills in Charleston, South Carolina. In addition, she was a class advisor for 24 years in Ocean. Upon retirement in 2016, Irene ran for a position on the Ocean Township Board of Education and is serving her second term on the board. She has lived in Oakhurst since 1980 and is proud of her three daughters who went through the Township of Ocean School District.

Sponsorship Opportunities
The Township of Ocean Board of Education, as part of their Policy 9720 - Advertising and Sponsorships, would like to forge a mutually beneficial relationship with local organizations and businesses through a sponsorship program. your organization, as an Education Sponsor, would receive numerous print, web and optional signage advertisements or acknowledgements in exchange for a one-time yearly fee. There are four (4) 'Spartanship' Levels of sponsorship involvement (Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Titanium) and the School Bus Spartanship to meet your advertising needs and budget. School Bus Advertising started September 1, 2013 in accordance with Policy #6164 "Advertising on School Buses."
All revenues received from the yearly sponsorship fees will be utilized to defray the costs of education and to increase funds available for educational technology.

Ocean Township Sponsorship Program
Sponsor Benefits
The sponsorship program will place your advertisement or acknowledgement in multiple placements that will be seen and read throughout the year by parents, students, staff and residents of Ocean Township.
Your organization's advertisement or acknowledgement will be included on the Township of Ocean Schools website at ww.oceanschools.org. The website is regularly accessed by parents, students, staff, vendors and community members. It contains daily updated information, student homework assignments, district email access links and Board of Education information.
Your organization's advertisement or acknowledgement will be recognized by 'Spartanship' Level in District Publications, including:
- High School Graduation Program lists graduates, scholarships and other information pertinent to the graduating seniors. The programs are distributed to all High School seniors, friends, family and staff in attendance.
- Intermediate School Graduation Program lists all graduating students and other information pertinent to the graduating eighth grade students. The programs are distributed to all eighth grade students, friends, family and staff in attendance.
- Spartan Spirit Newspaper is the High School digital newspaper, which is read by all High School students, staff and parents.
- Sand Pebbles Literary Magazine is the Intermediate School's student generated virtual magazine with a variety of student poems, drawings, photographs and short stories.
- Afterglow Literary Magazine is the High School's student generated virtual magazine with a variety of student poems, drawings, short stories and photographs.
- High School Drama Club Playbills are generated for two (2) productions each school year. There is a fall drama production and a spring musical production which attracts people of all ages. Playbills are distributed to all in attendance.
- Intermediate School Playbill for the theater production presented the by Intermediate School students. Playbills are distributed to all in attendance.
- OTHS Senior Award Program distributed to all in attendance for recognitions of graduating seniors.
- Student Handbook Directories distributed to the families of the Prekindergarten to Grade 12 students.
Your organization's advertisement or acknowledgement will optionally be located on a 4' x 10' sign next to a District Scoreboard at one of nine (9) different sports fields or gymnasium locations acknowledging our Diamond and Titanium 'Spartanship' Level organizations.
Field Scoreboards are located at the High School:
Varsity Football/Track & Field Stadium
Varsity Baseball Field
Varsity Soccer/Boys Lacrosse Field
Varsity Field Hockey/Girls Lacrosse Field
Varsity Softball Field
These fields are utilized by school teams and community teams such as little league baseball, football and traveling soccer. The sponsors are also announce at every home Spartan football game over the public address system.
Gymnasium Scoreboards are located at the:
High School Main Gymnasium (2 scoreboards)
High School "new" Gymnasium (2 scoreboards)
Intermediate Main Gymnasium (6,7,8 = 1 scoreboard)
Intermediate 5th Grade Gymnasium (2 scoreboards)
These gymnasiums are utilized by school teams and recreational basketball and volleyball teams.
Sponsorship Levels
Organizations that participate in the sponsorship program maintain a relationship with the Township of Ocean Board of Education in accordance with Policy #9720. Revenues received from the yearly sponsorship fees are utilized to defray the cost of education and to increase funds available for educational technology. There are four (4) levels of sponsorship involvement to meet your advertising needs and budget. - Titanium Spartanship (Customized)
This sponsorship can be customized to any organization, business or corporation which can included but is not limited to monetary or equipment donations. To submit a specific proposal, contact the School Business Administrator at 732-531-5600. - Diamond Spartanship - $7,500
Your organization will be acknowledged as a Diamond Sponsor, receive an upgrade to one large acknowledgement in school publications or website, plus all the benefits listed under the Platinum and Gold Spartanship. Your organization's name will be displayed on a 4' x 10' sign located under a Varsity/Junior Varsity Sport scoreboard. - Platinum Spartanship - $4,000
Your organization will receive an upgrade to one larger size acknowledgment in/on school publications or the district website plus all the benefits listed under the Gold Spartanship. Your organization's name will be displayed on an outside Varsity Sport scoreboard. - Gold Spartanship - $1,500
